Several states with struggling economies are seeking to join Nevada in legalizing sports betting. In particular, New Jersey recently passed a referendum legalizing betting on sports. In response, the NCAA, NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL have filed lawsuits alleging that this legalization will severely damage the integrity of sports. Sports betting is a particularly important topic at this time of the year as betting related to the NCAA mens basketball tournament is expected to reach $200 million this year. In response to this high volume of betting the NCAA stated that the “spread of legalized sports wagering is a threat to the integrity of athletic competition and student-athlete well-being.” To read more on this topic, view the original article:
