The NFL has instituted it’s own version of ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ in a memo sent to teams warning against asking about potential draft pick’ sexual orientation in advance of the May player draft.
The reminder was sent out only weeks after Missouri defensive end and NFL prospect Michael Sam publicly announced he is gay and on the same day a recent player poll showed overwhelming acceptance of gay teammates.
Three players claimed they were awkwardly asked about topics that seemed to reference sexual orientation during last year’s scouting combine, the 2014 prospect showcase will start February 22.
